Spanish Coin Facsimile Button Heartbreaker
Buttons and cufflinks with the image of a Spanish coin on them were popular in the mid-late 1700s. I have even found three actual Spanish half reals that had loops soldered on, presumably for cufflinks. Up until this past Friday I had only found the smaller cufflink sized Spanish coin facsimiles. Until I came across this heartbreaker....

This button was 25.1 mm, by far the largest I ever found. Here it is with a worn KG II that I also found on Friday.

And here it is again pictured with other Spanish Coin facsimiles I have found. The ones on the top left are a linked pair.

Finally, here is the sorry King George II that I found on the same hunt. I found another copper over the weekend that is too ugly to post. Now I am up to 7 large coppers FTY and not a decent one yet

Sorry Honey, I can’t. I’ve got plans with my metal detector.
Your sorry KGII would be worthy of a shrine in my house.... I’d probably even gut one of the spare bedrooms, build an altar, and install a security system that would make 007 proud.

I'll give it to you providing you give it the shrine described above

It seems like there should be some way to get the detail from these toasted coppers. They have Nic-a-date for nickels that brings back the date. The FBI/ATF can figure out the serial number of a steel gun that had had the numbers removed. Some kind of X-ray or something. It's a darn shame they are so far gone. Gary
