I went out for a bit to an old spot to test one of the vintage detectors I picked up recently. I wasn't expecting much, just wanted to make sure they worked and get away from the work bench for a bit. I took a Compass Magnum 320 from 1982 and worked around a couple old trees, got a few coins, just zincs I had passed over before most likely, and then three of these tokens in the same hole! Don't let anyone tell you these old machines are obsolete, you'll dig more junk for sure but I'm convinced that I've missed some good stuff using newer machines now.

These tokens are from "Floyd's Place" in Dorchester Nebraska, which is a town I hadn't heard of before... I haven't found anything about the place online yet, and this is one of those finds that make you ask "are these the only ones out there" Anyone have any thoughts on age, or seen any others like these? The third one is still in my truck somewhere, I dropped it and need to go look for it.

Those are some really nice tokens and the detector reminds me of the Heathkit detector my dad had back in the 1960s.

In a way I like them better, a coin is just a coin. A token has a story to tell of where and when it was made, and what it was used for and in many cases you can put a specific persons name to them which you just can't do with a coin out of the ground

Hey Ken being from NOLA I think you’ll appreciate these tokens. It’s a 10 and a 5 cent saloon tokes from Ziegler Saloon on Royal St In the French Quarter and how I know they are very old is because they don’t have that address on Royal Street anymore it was changed in the mid-1800s. The funny thing is I found the $.10 token at the oldest church in Covington Louisiana and I found the $.05 token at a old Jesuit priest’s house who lived in the woods by himself. Lol IMG_2557.jpg
