Hi everyone. It’s been a year of firsts for me (first Spanish Real, first KG2 just a few days ago). This afternoon after work I pulled two “firsts” in one coin: first half-dollar and first Barber coin. I’m so excited about this beautiful 1901 Barber half dollar!

The quick story: first I visited a local park that produced some great silvers in 2019 and 2020, but it was a very unproductive visit. I found one wheat penny...that’s it.
On my drive home I decided to try another location (the front of an old private school property where I have permission). In the past I’ve found some tokens and one silver Washington quarter in this front property, so I wasn’t expecting much. And there’s a nearby cell tower that causes a lot of EMI on both my Equinox and Deus, making the detecting a challenge.

When my first signal with the Deus was a strong 95 I expected a bottle cap or similar, and was honestly shocked when this coin popped out.
I was so happy I packed up and went home after 10 minutes!

- Brian

Very nice coin. Love the toning. Congrats on a great save!

Thank you for saying this, because I didn't know how to put into words how I felt about this coin, but you said it very well: the toning is fantastic, and something that can't be imitated. I'm not touching the coin any further - I love it just the way it is!

I can see why you left after finding the Barber. Hard to concentrate after a find like that. Head home and rest on your laurels! Gary

always seems strange to me that someone would do that. Any time I found something good I stayed looking for more. Maybe I'm just greedy

Congratulations on a beautiful coin!

Digging a coin like that is tough. Having a tough coin like that come out of the ground in such great condition is a real victory!

Congrats on your first Barber and Half Dollar. That is a great looking coin. I love the Gun Metal Gray toning. I never clean any of my silvers to make them shine. All I do is water them off and put them in the 2x2 holder. I want to remember them as they came out of the ground. Especially the older coins. I agree, do not clean yours any further, than the water you used to clean it up.

I hear you, but I can head back there this afternoon to look for more. And the stuff has been in the ground for...100 years? What’s another day.
