Howdy folks,

Got out late on Thursday trying to locate an 1876 fairground site. I think I'm closing in. Found a brass ring, a toasted IHP and a toasted shield nickel. Will probably try to locate it again on Sunday.

Yesterday I hit some parks and pulled out another Barber dime. Looks like that curse is lifted. Also got a no-date buffalo, some wheats, and a Chinese cash coin that dates 1821-1850 minted under Emperor Hsuan Tsung. FYI: the cash coin VDI was around an 18/19 on the Nox. Just under/at an IHP.

I know folks will occasionally post the cash coins. Here is a link to a very user friendly site that I've used a couple of times for ID.

Headed out again today, and probably tomorrow. Thanks for looking and good luck out there,

Nice sharp dime! Strange how Chinese coins turn up everywhere?

Yeah, I reckon they've always had about a fifth of the world's population and for most of the last 8000 years, the world's largest economy. The government would have had to mint a TON of coins to keep the wheels of commerce greased.

Can you show the other side of the Chinese cash coin to see the mint location? Most coins from that time are similar to the 嘉庆通宝 jiaqing tongbao. Therefore it was most likely minted in Beijing.

Note: it looks like The Calgary coin website uses the Wade-Giles romanization system for Chinese characters. Pinyin is used now for Mandarin language learning and phone/computer inputs.

Beautiful dime. The coin collectors call those circam, short for circulation cameo. Natural dark fields from use. Gary
