Got back out to a permission after using GPS coordinates to locate where a old barn and home had been. Was much more successful after doing so. Didn't find a lot but was please with what little I did find. I found my oldest silver coin ever a 1908 S dime, a cool American eagle decoration of some sort been wanting to find one forever always see others finding them in other states and just like how they look was jealous but finally got this one deep a couple feet from the dime I honestly was weirdly more excited about finding the eagle thing than the dime. Then just a old facet thing not sure how old. mir_20210421_173639.jpg mir_20210421_173708.jpg mir_20210421_174036.jpg mir_20210421_174106.jpg mir_20210421_174122.jpg mir_20210421_174155.jpg mir_20210421_173939.jpg mir_20210421_174001.jpg

GREAT, recoveries and there will be more to come ! research will always pay off, I find most of my site by old maps Diaries, from family trees online and by talking to the old timers, they are books of history.

Congrats on your oldest silver & the eagle insignia !! Nice looking stuff. Very cool eagle insignia. N.S. Meyer was founded in 1868 & is noted for military insignias, swords & related items.
Here's a few links about N.S. Meyer & pictures of some of their insignias & swords. CHEERS ! Happy Hunting !!

It looks like your eagle is a military badge/hat pin

Also quick question does anyone know how to go about getting the incrusted dirt off the hat pin? I got a lot off with a tooth pick but beyond that I don't know what else to do. I'm weary of what I clean with with espically copper, brass, and anything plated as those things often react to a lot of things.

Great saves John, the Barber Dime is a nice find.
Very nice hat badge, it looks to be gold-plated on white metal and likely dates from the 1910 - 20 period.
Dave

"N.S. (Nathan) Meyer Inc was founded in New York City in 1906 by Nathan S. Meyer (1870-1935).
Nathan Meyer was the son of Simon N. Meyer (1843-1910), who established his business in Washington, D. C. as early as 1868.

White metals are a series of often decorative bright metal alloys used as a base for plated silverware, ornaments or novelties, as well as any of several lead-based or tin-based alloys used for things like bearings, jewelry, miniature figures, fusible plugs and medals. The term is also used in the antiques trade for an item suspected of being silver, but not hallmarked. A white metal alloy may include antimony, tin, lead, cadmium, bismuth, and zinc. Not all of these metals are found in all white metal alloys, these metals are mixed to achieve a desired goal or need."

Going to get back out to the site at some point found a topographical map with the site dating almost into the end of the 1800s so I think it still have potential. Just a little more work because still hard to figure out the exact area of the site and the field was plowed a few times before the establishment of the almond orchard so finds go be a little spread out. Going to take work but the land owners are nice and please I clean a lot of the junk iron out of the ground for them
