This is an MGM token. Front has Marie Dressler, back has M-G-M star in "Tug Boat Annie". The movie was released in 1933, and also starred Charlie Chaplin. Interestingly, both of these stars spent alot of time at the old resort where I found the token. Has anyone seen movie star tokens like this before?

Rich--Dr. Melvin Fuld (the same person who wrote some of the early Civil War token books) authored a series in the Numismatist, the monthly magazine of the American Numismatic Association, cataloguing and giving some background on this sort of piece. I only have two of his articles at hand, from 1969, but there are quite a few tokens/medals/mirrors listed, most from the 1930s. They were apparently given out to promote the movie illustrated on them. In some cases it appears that they were just used at the location that had the "opening" viewing of the movie. John in ID

Thanks John, yours is the first info that I have heard back from with posts on alot of boards. What you have said fits. The silent movie "crowd" both hung out alot at the resort where this was found, but also shot movies in the area and staged out of the resort. I would still like to find some kind of info on others found like it.
Thanks
Rich
