This is now our 3rd back-to-back hunt getting 4 hammered per day! Not sure we have done that before.
The plan was simple, stick to the area we got the last 4 hammered from & not get distracted by all our other options...
It was too hot for me today, so I'm glad we finished the area in 5 hours.
Loads to dig & the most lead we have taken home in a long while.
We also hit it just before all the volunteer oilseed rape plants got any bigger. They cover 90% of the field (looked like a crop) & were already about 5 inches tall.

Tudor Button
Medieval Lead Button
Nice 14th C Buckle with pin
17th C Token - 1656 William Blyth of Nayland, Suffolk. (One I need)

Georgian Trade Weight
Complete Roman Bronze Ring
4 Hammered (all fell to me, this time):
Ed I Farthing
Unknown York Mint Penny
James I Halfgroat
Nice little Lizzy I Halfpenny 1584-86

Something was happening there to be so many silver.
Lead is your friend for sure.
Great results for the time out, well done!

This end of the field we had done some small area grids in the past & found no hammered, now we have 8 (the other 4 were another field). It's very dark sandy soil, so I guess farming since the Roman period (Nearby Bag Seal City Site).

How do you determine the age of a thimble?

I like the sites with 2000year activity. All the stuff you got your coils over! Well spent 5hrs in the sun. Had the same yesterday here. Actual too warm to detect. Congrats on another 4 hammerds and nice ring and medieval thimble!

Very nice!
What is the grid design on the smallest hammered? It looks like an iron gate.

Will the farmer grow and harvest the volunteer crop or turn it under and plant another? Seems late in the growing season for that but maybe they will overwinter? A free crop would be hard to pass up. Gary

Wow Crusader! Great finds and thanks for making all of us "new world" detectorists super jealous!
The title of your post makes it sound like, "yeah it's another day and yeah we got another 4 hammered coins" all casual-like.

I used to wonder that. But the seed placement is too thick (not spread out correctly)& they wouldn't get the best yield & there is also other issues with what oilseed rape takes out of the soil or puts in, don't remember but it does need spraying off & a Winter crop drilled. It's not too late for a few grain options.

Yeap, meant to be tongue in cheek, it's nearly becoming normal! (Now I've said that, I'm going to crash & burn)
