While detecting deep in the woods I found a purse bar along with 5 dirt encrusted items all in the same hole. I pulled them all out and was totally expecting to find a nice assortment of gold rush era coins when I cleaned them up. This was my first ever coin purse and it was about 8 inches deep so expectations and excitement was off the charts. Maybe my first US gold coin would be part of it! Look at the other stuff I was finding in that location ... all period.

Actual inventory:

1964D memorial penny
1949 UK one shilling
1967 Canadian penny
1965 Venezuela 25 Centimos
? Crushed coin

Cool find. You could post it in the local paper ( Buried Treasure ) You might even meet that kid.

Nothing better than a little nitro-moment, where we all think-could it be.
Missed the shilling by a few years to silver.

That's neat. That looks like a piano hinge which suggests something other than a coin purse. Maybe a wooden box time capsule?

Bummer about Colchester this year.
Most of the ground is brick hard.
Hard work digging anything out of that clay.
But still rewarding.

It's a cool find but, like you, I would've been full of adrenaline-pumping excitement to see what those coins were going to be. Very nice though, Congrats!
