While cleaning the basement the other day, I found something packed away
that I remember my grandmother telling me was made by her great grandfather.

She told me that he owned a rope-making factory in a shipyard in Sweden
and had made this "rope-jack" from old clock parts. As a kid, I still remember
my grandmother as well as my mother using this to make thick twine from kite string.

That is so totally awesome and what a great keepsake ....not only that your grandfather made it , but something your mom and grandma used. Excellent!

Thanks everyone for your comments. . . If I didn't see my my mother using this thing when I was a kid,
I wouldn't have had a clue for what purpose this was for either :D

Being an inventor myself (10 patents), this device really appeals to me. I used to be a toolmaker and technician too so I certainly appreciate the skill it must have taken your GG grand dad to make this. He must have been very brilliant. Great find and recovery buddy! That is a keeper for sure!

Very cool, thanks for sharing.

Happy holidays!
