(We join our intrepid treasure hunting heroes in yet another quest for buried relics and valuable items)

Date 12/18/07
Time 17:00
Location Somewhere in Southeast Missouri

BB and I had decided to make a break from the Wardens and go huntin. BB decided to go over the fence but I put the tunnel I have been digging for the last three years to good use and made a clean break. I didn't think the warden would notice I was gone, boy was I wrong! :o

It was a cold blustery day in the City by the River, The City of Roses as the locals like to call it. BB and I had just rolled up to the location of our last couple of hunts and we decided tonight was the night we were going to find something good. BB had his nice shiny new-looking XLT all ready to go and the Beast looked like a pig in a mud puddle from our last hunt in the sleet. Prior to arriving BB had showed me his new headlight he had just bought and said just look how bright it is and pushed the button. . . nothing happened. He pushed it again and again like 7 or 8 times expecting different results but the light was a lot like its owner, a dim bulb! ::) ;) :D So BB handed it to me and said here you go fix this thing. So I tried but at the same time I decided a little sabotage was in order. I put the battery holder in backwards as a joke and when it didn't work I tried to pull the holder back out and to make a long story short I broke it. :-[ :'( :( So I fessed up to BB right away and he started crying like a baby. Screaming look what you did to my nice shiny new light you mean man you. (actually he used some words I cannot post on the forum ::)) So we ran by K-Mart and I replaced his light for him and this one actually worked.

Back to the action... So we rolled up to the spot and we get out and start putting on all our stuff. I have my detecting utility belt and BB has his stealth detecting kit with him. Between the two of us we look like poster children for the land of misfit toys or somethin. Anyway we walk across the street and start searching and right off the bat I find a brewer's commerative ring and a couple of new pennies. I tell BB I am going to go around the side of the house and he just mumbles something and right away I know that he is ignoring me again. I tell him as I am walking away that if he sees any college girls he would be wise to steer clear of em. He just gives me a funny one finger wave and off I go. So I am detecting away and finding junk lots and lots of it, I mean relics, really nice relics when I hear a blood curdling scream coming from the front lawn! :o I put my stuff down and go running through the yard and just as I come around the corner of the house into the front yard I see two college girls pummeling the crap out of BB with pieces of what was once an XLT! ::) BB is in the fetal postion rocking back and forth yelling at the top of his lungs "There's No Place like Home there's no place like home." I ask the ladies what's wrong with them and the one little hotty looks at me and says, "You with this guy?" Well my momma didn't raise no fool, I look right at her and with as straight a face I can muster I tell her, "Which guy?" She spins around and kicks poor ol BB right in the side and says this guy you moron! Well BB is my friend and I am pretty certain I can outrun this lady so I say "Yeah BB there is my best friend." She says to me "Well you need to keep your best friend away from my window cause the next time I see him peeking in I am gonna rip both eyes out of his head." (SE MO girls are MEAN!) And then she walks across the road and looks at the back of BB's truck and her head just about blows off! "So that is where my license plates went to!" She yells histerically! "I want them back right now." So BB shuffles over to his truck and takes the plates off and hands them back to the girl. "HOT GRL" I knew those plates weren't his!!!!! ;D ;D Oh well hope he doesn't try and take mine next. After I put his XLT back together with zip ties and duck tape (yes that is the brand name of Duct tape I have) we
re back to the chase. Well we get back to hunting and a few minutes later I ask BB if he has found anything. He says "Dude I jsut found a SHEILD NICKEL! :o :) Well I walked over to him and I have to tell you I am worried about him. The little round disk he is holding in his hand is way to small to use as a shield if the college girls decide to come back and I told him as much. He says to me "No you idiot this is a shield nickel! This is a rare find." I just patted BB on the head and agreed. Man a guy has to do some strange things to keep his friends happy.

So back to hunting I go and I get a good hard SILVER signal with the Beast. It is deep according to the reading. I start digging and before long I have a hole as big around and the coil and deep enough that my entire Lesche digger will fit into the hole straight down when I hit metal. You know the scraping sound that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up? Well I worked around the roots for what seemed like an hour and pulled out the Yale Deadbolt lock. I pulled BB over so he could look at the hole as a witness so he can back me up on this.

The rest of the night I dug a lot of junk. I found part to a toy Derringer, and if you look closely enough at the metal that is crumbling and blue green you can see part of a toy cap gun I found. The sad part about that is that there was more there I just thought I had found a piece of pot metal and left it in the ground. The rest of the gun is probably still there in the ground. :(

I managed two wheats a 50 and 56. The 56 has seen better days, looks like it got hit by a mower or someone took shears to it.

All in all I found a lot of interesting junk but nothing to compare to the Shield Nickel that BB found. Everytime I go hunting with him he is always finding one thing just a little better than my finds. I think it may be time for a new hunting partner, one not quite so lucky or skilled (I think the later more than the former). I found a lead seal that has a 25 on the back and the words The Anchor Seal on the front, as well as some really small stuff. The nail in the picture was 4 inches down and it took me 25 minutes to find the darn thing!!! >:(

We stopped by Hardees to have a clebration dinner hey in this part of the country finding a Shield Nickel is a big deal!!!!! Just then I heard the sirens signalling that the warden had discovered my escape and I heard the hounds barking, actually it was my cell phone and the guy sitting all the way across the restaruant could hear my wife yelling at me over the phone. Hey it was only 11:45 PM what's the big deal? Anyway I headed for home.

Hey I wonder if I could interest those college girls in the hobby? ::) ??? ;) :D ;D

Another picture or two I don't know what the disc is. It was a coin but it is in such bad shape. I tried to electrolocize it and it disolved in like 10 minutes to nothing. :( :( :(

Oh well nothing ventured nothing gained. I'm going to tell BB that it was a Shield Nickel too. ;) :D :)

Thanks for reading

Great news!!!!!!!!!!

The unidentifiable disc didn't disolve after all, it slipped out of the holder I had made for it for electrolosis!!!

So I will still get to cook it. I am going to have to get a better power supply though because 0.8amps takes a loooonnnnnngggggg time to get anything done!!!

Whats up tiny circus pony fenderoid ;) Sounds like you guys had a great time. I'm sure BB's side of the story should be interesting. Have a good one.

John

Hey, Tinier than Tiny posted a reply. You will need an escort to the Latrine from now on guy. The circus pony act is still in the works from what I hear. The pony is tired and his agent is asking for more oats and some botox..... Freddy Fender and Musclebound (aka Fenderoid) (my favorite two people in Ks) wish to extend a warm holiday wish but only if their beer is bought for them.....OOPS, the pitchers were thrown too the floor. Now somebody is gonna have to wash them. Immature idiot. Maybe we could all just have a Zima on ME and call it a great gathering!!!!! Sounds like a plan. You guys, (the guys that gives the "Rowdy Bunch" name a run for it's money) will have to simmer down now and try not to make an arse of yourselves so you won't be talked about around the eaten table the next day........!!!!!! Understand!!!! One more thing, does anyone like the Yankees????? I know of a man that adores them. Now why would you be from Ks and like the Yankees???? Maybe it was just the shirt. We'll never know unless he confesses.
Last thought, there's nothing that scares me more than two local guys that are gonna get into something that they'll regret later. Or maybe it's 5 guys that don't know where the heck they are and really need to leave with much haste. I guess the latter was used per good advice from someone who couldn't or wouldn't use the latrine in that "not said" place to save his life unless we all went with him......Smart move there fella.
Last thought since the last thought......a word of advice. Never eat a sandwich at someones house, in a town where you know no one, cause you haven't a clue as to what they put in the mustard. Oh, and don't try this after 3am. It's been done and it was disturbing!!!!!
Last thought since the last thought that I thought about.........Don't tell on yourselves the next day unless it's in a simple code that everyone will understand. Things have a way of getting around and then SLANDERED out of proportion!!!!!!!!! Am I right????? LOL!!!!!!!

OK, now to the post at hand....Again fellas, nice finds and we need to get together soon. But in no way will I travel to an establishment that serves alcohol with any of you. Well, OK!!!!!! Yes I will.... It's a vice of mine. Must have good times with friends is now my new motto!!!!!!!!!!!! My other new motto, "Never speak to people that resemble Freddy Fender and don't befriend anyone who's arms are larger than my thighs"!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, last but not least, "don't think that someone in a Yankees shirt is in a giving mood"!!!!

Take care my Rowdy Bunch friends........Oh, and yeah.......Where is BB's reply????????????????

I got to hold the Shield Nickel all cleaned up (ok as clean as BB was willing to get it, he doesn't get in much of a hurry on these kind of things). I am so envious but at the same time happy for BB!!!

Come on BB bring it on!!! ::) :D ;D
