SCOUTING TRIP

Weather here in Illinois had been very cold and
a few snow falls. Warmed up the last few days
and in the 60’s today.

Decided to do a bit of scouting for the spring
and summer. This time of year is excellent,
easy to spot things in the woods.

Have a location that I got some leads on and
decided to see what is there.

Did not take along all my gear; no detector; took
GPS, maps I had, digging tool, water, that’s about it.

Trail leading into the area, this was an old farm area,
only young trees.

Good, “sitting log”. Good place to solve all the problems
that come up in life. 8)

0107083 (Small).JPG

Moving into the wood surrounding the farm and the
terrain got a bit more up and down. This old man
went up and down.

0107084 (Small).JPG

And up and down. Good work out. ;)

0107085 (Small).JPG

Spotted something a way off and went in that direction.

Dead tent. ???

0107089 (Small).JPG

Being the excellent woodsman I am :P; I deboned it. ;D

0107086 (Small).JPG

If I did not go towards the dead tent I would not have
come across this: Common “Castoria” bottle. Did not
find any other items in the area, but got the coordinates
and will make it back for a better investigation in the
spring or summer. Where there is one, may be more. :o
0107087 (Small).JPG

All in all a good day out in the woods, felt good being out. ;D

Gave the bones to the woman and hope she can find a use
for it; good plant hanger perhaps. :-\

poppa19,
did have a "great day." ;D
Any day I'm out in the woods is a
good un..... ;)

When I'm going into a new area and take
my detector with, it seems I just don't cover
much ground in getting to know the area. Stop
here for a bit and detect, stop there, and so on.

From what I saw today I have 2 or 3 areas I will
be going back with the detector.

have a good un..............

Great finds...yep that de-boned tent will make a good plant holder. Interesting to find that bottle right there too.

What interests me, looking at that trail...looks fresh, deer trail?

;) RR

River Rat,
woman has a lot of plants that she hangs
outside in the summer and brings in the
house for the winter; may work.

Wow.......look at all that bare ground!
We're heaped in snow here :(
Looks like you'll be busy here come spring!
Castoria.....yuck.....gag....patui!!!!!!!
Remember that stuff? Enough to gag a maggot!
Cool bottle, tho :) I've found a few, one totally intact.
Be well!

I recognise those bones!

Those are the bones of a "60-second tent". You literally pull it out of its bag and pop a few pieces of plastic in place and vois la, you have a tent!

TnT2000,
really makes you wonder why someone would
leave a tent in the woods ???

Have found several bottles just like it. Seemed to
be in a strange place for a dump, no real easy access.
Will be sure to check out the area again.

Ashleen,
had snow cover, but the warm weather the last few
days got rid of all of it; 60's yesterday, 50's today.
Midwest weather :-\ :D Never know.

NewbieTR,
"60-second tent." Wet and dirty but seemed like
a neat tent. Them bones snap in place, like you said.
Would seem to be a fast setup. Also would be a fast
take down; never know why someone left it ???

all have a good un...........

Looks like fun Sherm!! If theres a dump there then there was a house near it or a old unused trail that got plowed under when farmed....

cosmic,
checking my topos this morning. Did find
that I can get into the area from another
direction. If there was a road it would
have come from the opposite direction
I came in from. Will come in from that
direction on my next visit.

This was my first visit to the area. Know it
was a farm at one time, but have yet to find
where the farm was. Sure there will be some
foundations and such.

The area I worked would not have been part
of the plowed area, but where I usually come across
dumps.

It was fun ;D

have a good un.
