A first!!! Gold coin!! 1870-S :)

this 1870-S $2.50 gold coin was inside of an old ladies compact!! I found the compact, and my son found the coin while cleaning out the compact for me. so I consider it both our find!! jd

j.d. I've been watching this post since you first poted it and it has been a great motivation for me.

I found a compact just like the one you found the gold coin in but mine only held dirt!

This is the most likely way anyone will ever find a gold US coin.

This is one reason I dig those large deep iron targets (cache in metal can).
