Jeff
the tides come in for 6 hours and go out for 6 hours day in and day out
here is an example
today high tide 9.4 thats 9 foot 4
low tide -1.7 minus one foot seven inches.
works like that
the tides change according to the moons pull on the ocean.

minus tides dont happen a lot but they happen. several times a year
normal is like
LOW TIDE 3:34 pm 2.7 <----this would be a normal tide
today minus -1.7

Rick,
Congratulations on such a terrific find. Not very often that the Pacific NW will give up something that old. Being as where you found it I would say that this find should be banner material. It sure beats rusty nails and canslaw.... Highwater

That sure is some coin you found! Wow, did it come out looking like that or was it all covered in crude? If you cleaned it what did you clean it with?

I just lightly rubbed it clean with some baking soda and water
the coin came out of the muck looking close to that i thought it was a washer till i saw the writing on it.
i was hoping it was an old one like from 1850 to 1900 but to my supprise it was much older
if it was made in 1424 at the latest it would be
584 years old today
I wish i could know the story of the travels behind that coin.

Kinda makes you wonder who else was on our shores before 1492, when Columbus landed in Haiti.

I checked up on the theory, and it does exist: "Starry Night Charts Support Theory That Chinese Beat Columbus to America

To be truthful they are now talking about Indains crossed a land bridge to Alaska when Russia and Alaska once here togather around 20,000 years ago. Let's all go to Alaska and see if we can find some 20,000 yr old relics.

Re: HOLY COW my oldest coin to date (1408-1424 A.D)

Hmmm
very interesting.
this may be worth looking into
but getting our history buffs to admit they may be wrong would be onther task.

I know that the Local indians tell a story of a shipwreck and the indians took in the survivors who had red hair
and the ships men ended up as part of the indian tribes and soon we had indians with red hair and still to this day they have red hair.
the wreck was supposed to be befor 1492
so who was first.
