2.5 hours into the 4.5 hour hunt Dad had nothing. I was laughing as he detects along side me in the grid, so I was getting all the runs with the finds. He ended the day with 1/2 roman scrappy, 1 pewter button, & 1 blank copper. This is normal but then he fights back with the find of month, so I'm waiting for the big one :D

I had a bit of a button day (all but one with loops), with the smallest being dug at 4.5inches.

Pewter/Tombac types
Lead-alloy - broken
Napoleonic period Dragoons button :)

Nice Lead token
Georgian brass mail bag tag
4 scrappy romans plus a nice one of Constantine I (unfortunately a very common reverse)
Very pleased with the leather rose decoration probably just post Medieval (still has both handmade rivets & nice patina) :)
Just to prove how sensitive the Cortes is, look at the smallest piece of splash SILVER I have found.

Overall a better day. We shall try & finish up tomorrow ready for the Church Field next week.

Neat finds Crusader,I really do envy those of you who can hunt the Old World,When I watch the history channel and see all the beautiful county over there all I can think of is all the armies trapesing back and forth from England to the Middle east and beyond. How many times the land and rulership changed hands,And all that old stuff and pieces of history that lay in the soil.Have you ever done around stonehendge?lol Keep posting .I'm watching and green with envy

My Grandparents are from around stonehenge & people do very well in that area. Makes my stuff look rubbish.

GREAT finds, as usual.

Have you recovered any swords of note?

I'd love to see a retrospective of your finds. (hint, hint) :)

Cheers and HH,
Brendan

No swords or daggers only medieval sword & dagger chapes.

Sorry you have the live with the present & future finds. It would take to long to photo.

There is probably about 500,000 more Roman coins to find just in your area of England.

Kirk

Depends what you mean by area, but seem more than likely.

I am sure that those fields there in England will NEVER stop producing. There is just tooo many ages, too many empires and peoples who have lived over the same land there. England is nothing but one big field really anyway, not a whole lot of stands of trees left. So you could detect I am sure almost everyday and find tons of things from Victorian, Medieval, Roman, pre-Medieval, Dark Ages, etc etc. It doesnt suprise me much that you find these neat objects everyday....the peoples and history were there.

Crusader,
Putting a whooping on ol' Dad, huh? ;D
Very nice finds. You scored some beautiful buttons there. Congrats.
That tiny piece of silver on top of the nickel is very impressive for the Cortes's capability. Can't wait to get one.

FANTASTIC buttons! I just love the tombacs. And the Dragoons button is great as well :)

I'd rather have a great button day than a bad day! Nice work, Crusader.
