Finally had a chance to get this coin photographed, thanks to Earthworks...found this last week and posted about it...as best I can tell, it's 1730...I know the "3" looks more like a "7" but I think it's just smushed. It can't be 1770somthing and be a King G II, so I believe it must be 1730. Thoughts? (Had a spectacular day out today with Hollowpointred. We both had some terrific finds. Will post those when I can get them photographed.) -- Also, a plug for my contest -- See under Games and Contests...I buried a Large Cent, V Nickle, 2 Cent Piece and a Merc, all in one place...3 clues have been given and 3 more to go. Next Clue Monday night...

Defo 1730 dread to think how our coins will look in 300 years time ;D

Nice coin, looks in pretty bad shape.. But not so bad for 300 years.. Do you really think our coins can take 300 years of corrosion? I think not. Some of the zincolns I find are in worst shape.. That coin made it cause of the metal it was minted from. Today's coins are getting cheaper and cheaper. Pretty soon they won't last a few years in dirt. Pity for future treasure hunters.

Great coin! The KG III's were right facing bust's and the KG II's were left facing. I f i remember correctly the KG III's were made between 1770 and 1775. The KG II's were made in the 1750's i think. Although there were many counterfit's here due to such a coin shortage. Nice find. Check out a site called Regal British Coppers.
