Today's Field Variety......CW

Once again back up to the farm at Antietam, same field as last weekend where I found a fused end piece of cannonball.Today I found another piece of a 12lb Borman,a .69 roundball, pack stud(rivet) and what look's to be a finial of a Union cartridge box.The coolest find was this "minie"(don't even ask the caliber) that was smashed to about 1/8 of an inch.It measure's almost 1 3/4" long and an 1" wide .Definetley a bullet, ring's are real visible.....All in all it was a pretty good day.Thank's for Lookin'.

Here's a tailgate pic....

This a pic of the smashed round, dropped .69 cal. for reference....

What I believe is a Union cartridge box finial....Not really sure, little help.....

Cleaned up find's for the day.....

It's never hunted out....not when I've already hunted this particular field for a while.Alway's something new to be had.HH!!

Civilman,

What is the small piece in the last picture top left? It looks like an axle with two wheels on it. I've got one of those I found at a CW fort on the TX coast. Mine is inside a small piece of leather. I've never been able to identify what it was.

Hey Bluz'....I have quite a few from these field's,most likely they're rivet's or pack stud's,I think the more width they have more likely they're from horse tack. You just never know....but not only did the men die but the horse's took a beating as well.Still nice to pick one up every now and then....HH!!

That peice that looks like a miniature barbell is actually a collar stay. Men use to use them to keep those old celluloid collars together. Monty

Very nice finds Civil. I can't believe how flat that bullet is! Maybe the guy didn't have a gun and thought it could chuck it like a throwing star? ;D ;)
Neat find. Are those teeth marks on it. JUST KIDDING. ;D ::)
Congrats,

The .69 slug looks like a soldier may have chewed on it to relieve the pain of field surgery
