1860's Gold Ring

Went out and found a gold ring a few days back. It was at a site that dates back to the 1860's The site was last occupied in 1867. The ring has a leaf design with the initials CG. Looks good on my daughters finger. The ring is so small that she is the only one that has a hand it will fit. Folks in the 1860's must have had some small hands.

Thanks for reading, dig on

Re: 1860's Gold Ring

Thanks for the complement. I am already gray and I am only 49. This is a cool opportunity for me as this is the first thing in 10 years of hunting (dirt fishing) that she will put on that I have dug. I do not find jewelry often in the places I hunt like to hunt.

Great ring! How old do you think the ring is? Does it say what karat it is?

That's a really neat ring! Can you post up some more close-up shots of it and the detail of the engraving?

Very nice ring. 8)

What amazes me is that at the time it would been a fairly expensive item but the engraving (CG) is poorly executed. Maybe done by the owner who didn't want to pay for a professional job. Someone watching their pennies. Just a thought.

Oh yeah .... and nice looking clock ;D

That's high grade gold and quite a bit earlier than 1860. It looks English made. You know you'll never get it back fom your lovely daughter now...

Re: 1860's Gold Ring

That's an AWESOME find. Keep up the investigation trying to find out more history on it.

I vote to let your daughter keep it. She certainly seems happy with it and.................I think it would mean WAY more to her than anything you could ever buy her in a store!!!!
