1880 Indian Head Cent ~ 1916-S Mercury Dime ~ 1942 & 1944 Mercury dimes

I met Ron & Richard downtown today ~ the weather was great! Took off my coat after about 30 minutes of detecting ~ I was too hot! CRAZY!! Ron had a great day ~ he dug FIVE SILVER COINS! Here's what I dug today:

7 clad quarters
31 clad dimes
8 nickels
62 memorial cents
1880 Indian Head cent (holed)
8 Wheat cents (23, 37-S, 40-S, 44-D, 44-S, 44-S, 47-S, 53-S)
1944-S Mercury dime
1942-D Mercury dime
1916-S Mercury dime
Oregon Motor Stages TransitToken
a coulpe of golden buttons

This 1880 Indian Head cent is the oldest one cent coin I've ever found ~ too bad someone holed it right in the center!

I took a close-up picture of the "S" mint mark on the 1916 Mercury dime ~ too bad it wasn't a "D" mint mark! The picture of the silver dime in the dirt plug is the 1916-S Merc ~ I saw the reverse side first and took out my cell phone and snapped the picture before I looked at the date side.

It was a fun day of detecting!

THANKS! Neil

You guys had a great day! I'm with ya on the crazy weather. We've got it here too. Started out with my usual sweat shirt and jacket, took the jacket off in 15 minutes and within an hour, I was headed home for a T-shirt!

Keep up the good work!

To use as a washer? I've seen pics of Large Cents that were used as washers so why not IH's?

Oh yeah ~ I didn't think of that!

A few years ago a local coin deal had a Bust Half dollar that someone (a LONG time ago) tooled it and made into a gear and used it in a clock! I can't remember the date ~ I just remember that it was a rarer date. Very interesting converastion piece!

You guys really do great there in downtown Eugene! Always getting silver.
I lived in Eugene fo 30 years. Wish I would have done more detecting.
Always enjoy seeing your finds from the hometown.

Looks like you had a GREAT day!
I found 3 1916 Mercs last year, but none had a D. An S was the closest I got too.
I can't wait to get out again. I've been all frozen in again since last Saturday.
3 Mercs and and Indian is a killer hunt!
Congrats!!
