1921 California Chauffeur's badge (US state badge link added for badge lover's!)

My third visit to The Big Field was another productive one, though there is still a lot of junk to dig here too. The badge is my favorite find yet and the compact is the second I've dug here.

A few people have asked about chauffeur's badges here. I found a very informative site yesterday:

A lot of post-1922 CA badges were reproductions, but these all have the same serial numbers (as pictured).

Online, I've only found a few chauffeur's badges that are older, including a 1917 from Texas. This badge was in use only 14 years after the Model A Ford came into wide use. I enjoy thinking about the history surrounding the badge and the era it came from. Thanks for all the comments. - Jim

I once found a 1933 chauffers badge but the homeowner of the property that I was detecting wanted it. Nice find

Sometimes the homeowner's have to keep the goodies. In the long run, it serves as good ambassadorship for the hobby.

Wow!! That is an oldie for sure! You got me beat by 5 years. I have found 2 badges......1926 & 1932 (State of Maine). The '26 is missing the pin, but the '32 is complete.

It would be a real kick if we could find out to whom they were issued to by tracking the badge numbers. I,m sure that might be possible through researching state records.
