Been finding some really cool finds the last couple of weeks but had to post todays finds. This kind of stuff is kind of the norm out east, but these were found in the Gold Rush Country of California! These are pre civil war, although many deserted the war to search there fortune and then after the war the veterans did the same. This particular type of belt plate is very rare and was quite a shock when it popped up.My Dad found the nugget in the same camp last weekend!!

Thanks for the compliments!!Actually altough many soldiers deserted the Civil war to search for there fortunes and many veterans did as well, alot of the military type stuff we find in these sites were pre civil war(we know this by the other age indicators we have down to a science)this plate was probably from the Mexican American war or a Militia plate. They are very rare out this way.We dug a Navy Wreath (from a Tongue and Wreath)in the same site that was from the 1840's(pre civil war) ;D

This is a fantastic group of finds. My 1850's Militia Plate didn't have the rope border on it--and the plow had bent it in half. :( Glad you're came out in great shape. Keep digging!
