Thanks to Don in SJ (for giving me the specs) and for JC for weighing and measuring I can confirm that the George I coin (1723) is a halfpenny and not a farthing like I thought...The weight and size is right for the halfpenny...Here are a couple of new photos....I am afraid to clean too hard on a coin that old...

Re: Found my oldest coin to date!!

I would bust a "Head Gasket" if I found one of those!!!!!!!!!!! Wow.

My oldest coin with a legible date was a IH.........it was 1879. I think the shield nickel I found was possibly older, but can't quite make out a date enough to call it older.

Jnott . . . congrats again on the King George I(1717-1724) copper and I hope the pics were all right . . . I told you the map showed a house on that spot . . . ;D . . . we'll have to hit that spot again only real slow . . . I'll bring my digital calipers and scale the next time we meet and we can measure and weigh it . . . again congrats!

I confirmed the coin by using the specs provided by Don in SJ (thanks Don) and by JC for weighing and measuring...It is a 1723 George I halfpenny and not a farthing....Here are a couple of newer pics....I am afraid to clean too much on a coin this old...

Nice find,

To bad about condition. But at 300 yrs old I would look crusty to. I would have to tumble that one.

Congrats on a old coin man
