Working in the Burnt out 1810 house today, I found
a loose brick. I pulled it out expecting to find nothing,
But, to my surprise, there was a cool looking iron key.
Well, that got me going. I started looking everywhere for
any kind of hiding places.
Then I saw one board on the old floor that was shorter than
the rest and worn on one edge. I took my flat bar, slid it
in the crack and VOALA!!! Inside was an old Polident Tablet
bottle. Picking it up it rattled. Treasure inside??? I opened
it and found two crochet needles. One is definitely bone, but
the other one is denser, shinier, and looks to be hand carved...
.......Ivory? I don't know, but I think so.
After checking out the needles, I took my attention back to the
"Secret Compartment" in the floor. With my face literally IN the
hole, I saw the color of Gold. Pulling the object out, I was
certain it was brass, but my partner is convinced it is gold.
It took awhile to get the object open, but when we did, We
were surprised to find lipstick in it. It was dried out and not
much of it, but it's there.
If any of you know anything about Ivory, Or the brass/gold
lipstick container marked only "Pompeian", Please let me know.
Now that was enough for the day........NOT!!! At lunch, I took
out my detector to check out my new 5" coil in the trashy yard,
and the first hit was a pulltab, but I was feeling lucky, so I
kicked the dirt aside and found a 20" gold chain marked 14k
ITALY!!! I then got three pennies and gold crushed hoop earring.
Needless to say, I had a great day!!!
Enjoy the photos.

It just looks sooo clean.

Man Ty.... I wish I knew more about Lipstick tube's :o I'm sure you'll find an answer on it soon! But to have it come out from the floor board's looking like like get's me thinking Gold....Even if it was from the 50's it would have some kind of oxidation on it. ??? Congrat's on the Gold chain and earring, they are shoe-in's and good luck with the other "needle" being Ivory...that would be cool. You're definetley pulling some pretty sweet stuff out of the old house....Keep em' comin'!!!!

Thank Joe. I hope this jpb lasts all summer.
The owner of the property said that I can detect the
30 x 40' basement. I hope he sticks to his word.

Probably a brass plated lipstick tube. Not tarnished because the floor was over a basement? Those crochet hooks are beautiful, I bet they are worth some cash to somebody. Although, they'd make a nice addition to a display case or shadow box.

The key must lead to something somewhere, the hunt is just beginning!

WTG on finding the gold. Sounds like you have a great site.

PS, what detector did you use on the gold and what settings? Always curious, thanks.

I was using my XLT on relic mode with a 5.3 coil.
The chain came up at 33 on the VDI.
We have gutted the entire house, so if the key is still in
play, it's in the ......Basement, which I have not even
stepped foot in yet. But soon.
With all of the hidden spots upstairs, can't wait to search
the basement!

The original part of the house and basement were built in 1810.
And, yes, the basement is all dirt, or so I am told, haven't yet seen it.
The owner keeps it locked.

Ty I would TIE that key around my neck and look for places to stick it while I was anywhere near that house :o. It's was hidden behind that brick for a reason. I am picturing a large metal box full of old coins buried somewhere around that house. I work cheap can I come help..
