SaginawIan and I have been planning to hunt the last few weeks but the weather has held us back. Last night I gave him a call and he told me that where he's at they had 4"snow. :-\ :icon_sunny: Sunny here and the ground is as soft a butter. I'm coming down he said. We hit some of my farm sites. Pictured is the first site. I'm too pooped to clean my finds tonight, but will update with more pics tomorrow, as we hunted allllll day.

Anyway, here's a few of the finds. I'll let Ian tell you what he found.

As for me, I managed a crusty button, mini ball, couple of padlocks, grease cap for a model t ford, crusty coin, and a poor man's ring, the third from this site. (Everytime the gold wore off she must have sent him for a real one, tee, hee). You may be able to see where it says 18k.
The Yard around the house in the picture was so loaded with iron that it was next to impossible to hunt so we moved into the field around the house to pick up a few finds. Then we hit two more sites, the last of which is loaded with lots of signals. But the day was getting late so we packed it in.

Thanks for coming down for this fun day, Ian.

Thanks for looking, folks.
Ken

I haven't taken the pics yet, or cleaned the stuff. It was super muddy. I've got some cleaning to do before taking the pics.

Kas, that looks like a great place to hunt. . . especially when you can hunt with a good friend!

Take care!

Re: SaginawIan makes three hour drive to hunt.

Ken - Thanks for having me down!! I had a blast! Worth the drive!

I got off to a running start this hunting year. Like Ken said, I couldn't resist the lore of early 1800's cellar holes and warm sunny weather. I had to make the drive.

Ken has some great sites down there yonder in Southern Ohio!! Wide open spaces with lots and I mean lots of farm sites! Ken has enough old premium sites lined up to hunt forever - no kidding. Plus, he showed me how to get permission to hunt old farms - in fact he found and received permission for 4 more 1850's farms while I was with him! Ken - I'll be coming down before they plant those fields. Maybe on the way back from DFX hunt?

I found 3 buttons - two of which are very old flat buttons. 1909 vbd? wheat ( have to clean it yet). Musket balls, several buckles, and probably a hundred assorted copper and brass relics that I can't even remember at the moment. I was digging a good signal every 2 feet for 8 hours straight!! I also took a video of that brick place in the pictures which was amazing to look at. I'll post my pictures and video soon,

Ken,
Looks like a good place to hunt. Too bad about the iron. Great time to do hunting - before that growth gets too high.

Looking forward to the DFX hunt - only a few weeks away. :icon_sunny:

I've been there, but the weeds were alot worse!! I'm sure there are coins there if you get all that trash out of the way, and those fields should produce better too. Hope to see many more goodies come from there Ken!!
