After several years of searching, I finally found my first Spanish Piece of 8!!!

In addition, today I also found what I believe to be a gilded button from the same period and what I believe to be a Civil War era bullet nearby.

If anyone has some good ideas on identification of the gilded button or bullet please let me know.

Was the Spencer used predominantly by Union or Confederates?  Thnx.

Mostly by Union troops...but as captured firearms, they saw use by both sides--and they were Highly prized.

Two questions...
1. If you had the other 3 parts of the coin, what size coin would it make? quarter size, half size or dolar size?
2. Is the base of you bullet hollow or solid?

Addition...in CW action, the Spencer carbine was generally used by the Cavalry because carbines were smaller and easier to carry on horseback than the musket.

The last picture will show an overview of the finds with a everyday quarter in the middle for scale. So I'd say its approximately 1/4 the size of a modern quarter.

Interesting point about the bullet. It's most likely Confederate if they were used mostly by Calvary because there were almost no Union Calvary in the Pensacola area of action. Thanks for the feedback.

Nice set of finds. To me the bullet looks like a three ringer but then my eyes are old. I would love to find one of Bragg's training camps in or around Pensacola with some of those 1861 state seal buttons. I have dreams about things like that.
