    Grandmothers cigarette box from WWII

I didn't dig this up, but it has an interesting story behind it.

My grandmother had this made by a German POW while she was stationed in Egypt. She served in the British Army during WWII as did my grandfather.

The cigarette case was made by a German originally for my great grandfather (a present from my grandmother to her father). It is made from the aluminum food tins which were available in the camps. All of the metal work has been engraved by hand(with what I don't know). In exchange for the tin my grandmother gave the POW cigarettes which they often used in trade (I'm guessing they could not obtain them otherwise).

The case is pretty impressive once you see it in person. It has a lot of detail work and the locks/hinges work well.

Now that is an amazing piece of history. A treasure is always better when the story that goes with it can be shared.
