Spent a few days out with my kids detecting an old field near my house. Found a couple colonial coppers..1747 George II Hibernia and the other I beleive is a 1740 George...also found 4 LC's 1803, 1817, no date and a counterstamped one that says either Bert;s or Bertso (any ideas???). An 1869 2 cent piece and a 1903 IH. Also found a copper that is larger than an LC but no details visible at all so am not sure what it is/was?? Also found a Merc, a silver buckle (marked sterling on the back, some horse shoes and a couple of hand forged axe heads. Field is about 16 acres..covered one area of it and all these finds were spread out thru the week...Hit the same area the other morning and got skunked, but still lots of area to hit in the field.

Nice finds. I wouldn't mind seeing some close ups of the colonials front and back. They must have some pretty good detail if you can date them. I would be psyched up to hunt a field like that. 16 acres is pretty big. Was it some type of common area in the 18th centuury or are we talking homesite?

Evolution...here are some close ups of them...both dates aren;t strong but they are visible. The site was near two old 1800's hotels and the field abuts where there were old Indian minions (Sp?) along the shore. And LOVE your avatar, now THAT is a sweet colonial!!!

Sounds like a great spot to hunt. 2 hotels? Wow!! You wouldn't be able to keep me off of that field. I'd be there all the time. Thanks for the close up pics. The coins were much easier to see. There's gotta be some more out there. :o I found that coin in my avatar pic last August. It was my first large copper that I was able to ID. It's in pretty good condition considering it was in the ground so long. I've found a few more colonials since then but this one will always be my favorite. GET BACK OUT TO THAT FIELD!!!!!
