Why hasnt this post caught peoples attention? WOW, an 1885 Liberty Nickel Key Date coin! Awesome find Carverwood! Do not try and clean it, it looks to be in good shape besides the corrosion. Banner find just like Captn SE 1909-S Indian cent. Congrats.

You just dug the Holy Grail of V-Nickels! Just don't play with it too much, or try and clean it. You even might want to get it graded professionally. Again, great find!

You struck at rich all right! That coin is in a G-4 Condition or maybe even a little better but what it stands out right now without cleaning the dirt or anything away is at a G-4 condition. The Red Book prices's it at $475.00 Coin. In just that Condition. You sure have hit the rich pockets! I would not give that coin to anyone if I were you.

Wow, that is a very nice find, carverwood. In fact, the shielded nickel is a very rary find too!!

Marc, our moderator, told me that my '09S Indian Head would have made banner if it were a "cleaner" coin, so I believe your V nickel would be under the same unfortunate criteria as mine. :icon_scratch: There were almost 1.5 million of your 1885 V's minted, and only 309,000 of my '09S Injuns, yet your 1885 V has a consistently higher PCGS price across the whole grading board.. :icon_scratch: Maybe because yours is a nickel and mine is a penny... ;D :D

Major Congrats to you!!
