1960's ski slope

Yesterday I went to detect at a location that had been a small ski slope from 1959 to 1965. I was in junior high then but I can remember the slope. The house and barn at this location dated 1900.

The orginal owner who had the idea of building the ski slope was killed by a falling tree while clearing the land for the slope, his son now owns the 54 acers. Most of the slope area has been reclaimed by trees. The owner told me the site had been hunted several times in the past. You can just barely make out the difference in the height of the trees where the slope was.

This is a picture of the "beginners" hill. The poles behind my van still have the pullies on them that held the tow cable. I did take a pass up and down this hill with no luck, the grass was pretty high and made it tuff to swing.

Like any old home that is still occupied there was a ton of iron in the ground around the house. However the most productive area turned out the be the very small back yard.

I managed two silver coins including my 9th Merc for this year, 5 wheat pennies, clad and a lot of junk.

Schrecky: when you are detecting in that difficult grass, are you on DISC or do you change to ALL METALS? I'm sure you can guess why I ask.

That's a beautiful place and looks like a nice place to hunt, I would say you had a good day with that silver.

I'd say the best find of the day is the cap missile.. ;-) Hmm... wonder what happen to mine... bound to be in my parents yard someplace!!! ;-) either that.. or it was one of those toys that "disappeared" when my Mom was cleaning!!!

Wow, is that a Chemtoy Cap Grenade you found there? I just found one of those on my last hunt. Strange..I think that dates to the 1970's from a Chinese firm. Great hunt and great pics too. ;D jgas
