Got out for about an hour on Memorial Day...hunted a vacant lot where a house once stood..land is owned by older fella whbo told me I could hunt it all I want but keep an eye on it for him...no parties, beer cans,etc...hunted around a couple of trees on the east side of it and got a good signal..when I first saw it I was not sure what it was...knocked off some dirt and saw it was a button..took it inside and ran water over it...back was gone and the shank is gone but the front is really great...it is a US general staff button from 1850-1860's :o my first Civil War find... ;D....not sure what it is worth but if anyone can tell me I would be happy to hear from them...

I had a detecting club meeting the next night and I used the button as my find of the month and won a 1926-S peace dollar...I was pickled tink..I mean tickled pink...not bad for my first time...thanks and have a great one...
