I went to Oronoco,Minn. today to a park on the hill. It was all weeds and brush when i was a child and now they mow it and a lot of trees.
I think i was there only five minutes when i found it. :coffee2:Cofee in one hand the detector in the other.
As soon as i found it at five inches down next to a tree i thought i should leave because it usually happens i find something good and nothing the rest of the day. I was right, nothing else.
I stayed four hours. The sun was shining and it started to rain. I ran a quarter mile to the out house. It didn't last long and i was back out. About a half hour later it started to thunder and lightning so i left because i didn't want to be tosted.
It's a 1861 seated liberty quarter with a hole in it.
It has S.C.F. stamped on the left side and 1868 stamped on the right.
I thought i might go to the cemetary some day to see if i could match a name with S.C.F. on one of the tombstones.
But first maybe you great bunch of detectorist could tell me what i might have here.
Im just thrilled to have found this. Happy hunting to you all. Roger

Awesome! Sorry, my daughter's been saying that lately. A great find, with a story that we'll probably never know.

Wow....Too bad about the hole but maybe the inscription has some significance. Congrats. That thing would grade really high if it wasn't damaged.

Nice find! There has to be an interesting story behind it, let us know if you come across anything at the cemetary. There are some online sites to search old cemetaries, I have seen them when working on geneology.

That always seems to be the way it is . . . . you find something really good, then get skunked the rest of the day. Good idea to stay away from the lightning (no matter how good the site is), be careful out there.

Neat find! The coin looks great. lots of detail.

The C.F. might stand for Correctional Facility. :D
That's pretty common.

Maybe the S. stands for State.

Whoever punched those letters and numbers into it, sure had the proper tools.

Great Find! Congrats!

My bet is (cool find by the way) that the coin date is "date of birth" and second date is "1st Communion." The other is the person's initials.

I like your idea of hitting cemeterys to check headstones. You may be able to do that online easier.

I went to the cemetary and no luck finding a name with S.C.F. I looked through a book on the histery of oronoco and no one matches. Thanks for the replies everyone.
