JFK Reception & Dinner Medal -- UPDATE

I went out for a short hunt this morning near an old Boy Scout camp to try and
find some old SILVER. . . since I found enough old copper last week in Wisconsin :)

After two hours. . . nothing. . . not even a Memorial penny. I was about ready to call it
a "skunk" but then when I dug my last target, this silver disk popped out at 4".

It's almost the size of a half dollar but not quite as thick and it says "Sterling" on the back.
I'm curious if these medals might have been given out to attendees at this Reception/Dinner.

6-18-08 UPDATE
I received following response from the "John F. Kennedy Presidential Library"
regarding this Reception & Dinner" medal:

Dear Mr. . . .

This 27mm, sterling medal you have was issued in connection with
the President's first public appearance after his inauguration: the
reception and dinner of the Cook County Democratic Party in Chicago.
There were 1500 struck by Fred Kofink Co., Chicago. All were personally
presented to those in attendance. There were two separate medals struck
in gold, one for the President and the other for Mayor Daley of
Chicago.
I do hope that this information is helpful.
Sincerely,
Sharon Kelly

I'm no expert, but I think Daley was the mayor of Chicago.

Re: JFK Reception & Dinner Medal

You are right in your guessamate. These were party favors that were handed out at the reception. It was a little "thank you" for your donation to the Democratic Party (Boss Mayor Daley) and the privaledge of getting to see JFK. Nice find.

Neil in West Jersey said:
I only found one for sale, on ebay in Poland. The asking bid is 50,00 zl, or about $23 US. Here is the link:

Congrats!

Neil, thanks for that link. . . after I found it, I looked on ebay as well. . . after trying about 8 or 9 key word combinations
I went to bed :P . . . I should have checked the JFK Presidential Library sooner.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!
