I couldn't hunt the new site due to the clover being too long so I went back to the Shilling site. The clover is growing pretty good on this one two so my hunts here are numbered. I think it is pretty much cleared out. I did manage a German (I think) lead seal, a couple silver plated buttons and a decorative doodad. Not too bad for a couple hours.

Very nice! is that civil war stuff? I like the ring, very old looking

Actually that is one of the silver plated buttons on top of my ring...

Not civil war stuff but from the same era but different country.

I found one of those lead seals. What is it? What does it come from? Looked like junk to me, but I kept it anyway as an interesting find. Mine really doesn't look like lead, more like iron. Some rust on it. But looks very much like the one pictured above.

Lead seals are certainly not junk! Your's sounds like a newer type seal which would have had an iron wire running through it to close an item. The older types were used to record makers, record taxation as well as to close a bale or satchel. My seal is not that old and only dates to the mid 1800's I do have an older seal from the early 1700s. They have been used for generations.
