Strangest way I've ever found anything metal detecting - but true!

I've been in a silver slump. I seemed to stop at 12 pieces this summer. I couldn't find #13 (unlucky? apparently not). I've been shopping around for a new machine and went to Dicks Sports to check out a BH 3300 just for the heck of it.

Whether you'll believe it or not, this was laying in front of the detector display! The reverse was facing up and my first instinct was no way is that real. I thought maybe it was a fakey piece that Bounty Hunter put in their boxes for testing/display/etc. But sure enough, it was.

I think someone must have bought a machine, tested it out with some coins, realized it was junky (I'm sorry, it was) and returned it to the store not realizing they threw this back in with the packaging material.

2 questions-
Question 1: Was I wrong for pocketing it? I mean, how do you track down the owner?
Question 2: Does this qualify as silver find #13 (and pretty much the best one so far of the summer)

Can I consider myself over the unlucky 13 hump? :)

Nothing wrong at all with pocketing it. Consider it good Karma for not kicking a dog recently and move forward

Detecting Rules, #4, page 23, 2nd paragraph simply states " If said item is found within 11 feet of a metal detector, whether in use, or even turned on, said item will be considered and permitted as what's known as my silver count" This includes setting the detector directly outside of the porti-potty, if lucky enough to have one on the site that you are detecting. ( Georgia vs "I ain't risking it falling in that little hole", rg. 1978 ) Bragging rights should be kept at a minimum, and any exaggerations in the discussion of the actual finding may null and void said found item. There ya go.

yea I have to give you the find.....if you were there buying new shoes or a basketball then no but when you go to get a better detector and find it then I think it has to count. Now #13 is behind you and you can get back to finding the rest.

Excuse me sir, I'm with store security and you're going to have to come with me now. We have footage of you pocketing something out of a box on aisle 16 near the metal detectors...
