Hey Darla, we all have days like that. Just think back to when you started, and if you had found all of that you would be in heaven. I don't know much about the bullets, but it looks to be about the civil war era. What is the diameter, that might help. HH....Lance

bullet size and new relic ?

I agree lance, I rather dig these finds that the pull tabs any day.

Here is another pic of the bullet, I put a penny with it this time to help with size, I always forget to do that with my posts.
I have added a new find from saturday, it is made out of lead and is open at both ends with one of the ends having a small opening and the other bigger. Could this be a possible pipe, let me know if you relic experts have any ideas.

happy detecting,
Darla :)

good site

I will check out relicman.com, it might give me some more insight to some of the other things I have found. I hope new dig site will in time produce some pretty good finds, I have several new acres to cover which is within a 1/2 of a mile from where I dug the colt derringer pistol, servants button, 1820's mexican military uniform button, army payroll seal and some other items from the early to mid 18oo's. I still have alot to learn about relics and need to get me some good I.d. books on military buttons, civil war relics etc. If anybody could recomend some good books with alot of pics I would appreciate it. It helps when we have our monthly meeting and I bring my finds.

Happy detecting :o

Hey Darla, here are some really good button books.
Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons, by Alphaneus Albert
Military Buttons of the American Revolution by Don Troiani
Americian Military Insignia 1800-1851 by Campbell & Howell
and if you are rich you can buy The Big Button Book, but it goes for over $300.00
The American Military Insignia is not buttons but good for Belt plates and cap and helmet devices
I can't afford the Big Button Book, but have the rest and they are great.

From my perspective, next to the penny your bullet looks to be close to .38 caliber. The balls look like .36.
