unfortunately it was NOT a large cent, it is a large copper from 1853, not sure much about it though. If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it!! It is my oldest coin found so far, so that makes me happy

here are the rest of todays stuff, got some clad, a token, small religious pendant, tiny dog pendant, and a pic of my trash to show you I was digging a LOT of signals today...lol

That's a nice and interesting find.

It is French in origen. (centimes is cents)

Here is an interesting article about Napolean III not the coin.

Good luck on finding the large cent. I'm still working on that, a gold coin, a platinum ring, etc. I love this hobby.

Looks like you have a French 10 (Dix) Centimes coin. I just saw a few on Ebay for sale....one had a starting bid of around $10, and was in mint condition...but there was another one with a "B" mintmark with starting bid of $50.

If you're finding coins like that, I think your American large cent would be just around the corner for you!

Congrats,

Keep digging those signals. That is how you find the good stuff. Congrats on the finds. I like the 1853 coin.

Nice finds. I have hunted the same area under
different conditions, (ie, rain soaked, dry, humid, frozen)
and come up with keepers almost every time.
Try it again later.

Nice find, I bet a large coin is in your future!!! With finds like you found, I'm sure of it!!

HH,Ringfinder

P.S. That 1853 coin looks better than most dug Large coins! When you do find one, don't wash it, just
clean it carefully with a toothbrush and leave it alone. If you try to wash it, you'll be lucky to read the date!

the mint mark on this one is MA

The value depends on condition and where it was minted. Below is the breakdown of values :

=> 1853-A, Paris mint, "A" mint mark under eagle
Book value: Fine= $2, Very Fine = $5

=> 1853-B, Rouen mint, "B" mint mark under eagle
Book value: Fine= $3, Very Fine = $7

=> 1853-BB, Strasbourg mint, "BB" mint mark under eagle
Book value: Fine= $3, Very Fine = $7

=> 1853-D, Lyon mint, "D" mint mark under eagle
Book value: Fine= $3, Very Fine = $7

=> 1853-K, Bordeaux mint, "K" mint mark under eagle
Book value: Fine= $5, Very Fine = $18

=> 1853-MA, Marseille mint, "MA" mint mark under eagle
Book value: Fine= $15, Very Fine = $30

=> 1853-W, Lille mint, "W" mint mark under eagle
Book value: Fine= $2, Very Fine = $8

* Fine = About 70% of the hair details visible.
* Very Fine = About 80% or more of the hair details visible, but no luster.
* Lower grades are worth less than half of the value for Fine grade.

The way I see it, with all that trash out of the ground, you are certain to hear something else now that was hidden because of all the junk. that copper is COOL!
