"Good for 1 loaf" token and a whatsit...help please?

Did a short hunt this evening and found this token and a whatsit. The whatsit has patent dates of 1890 and 1891 and looks like the top part might clip something, but otherwise I have no idea on this one. If you have any information on either of these items please post. Thanks again.

The token has the same rim around the edges but is completely plain on the back. It is approximately the size of a quarter.

Thanks for the info Plehbah. I googled it and read about "Mavericks". The town I am from is real small and I am going to talk to our local historian just to see if the token was from a local business or out of town. We only had a limited amount of grocery stores and mills back in those days so we will see.
