It aint never hunted out. Update, US 2.5 Gold Coin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes I said it.
Well I got a tip that all of you need to listen to, first off I have been a relic hunter for 30 plus years. Always though the bigger the better with coils. Almost 15 years ago I bought a Blue Max 6" coil for my Eagle Spectrum, never even got it dirty. I though it couldn't possibly get any real depth so I stuck to the 9.5. Well I have hunted my yard and my neighbors for 25 years. My neighbors yard is very trashy and noisy. I have found a lot of coins in these yard over the years Seated Liberties, Half dimes etc. Well I was looking for something This weekend and found the 6" coil, so I though why not give it a try after 15 years. I came up with a new program for the coil on the Spectrum and started on my Neighbors yard for about 2 hours. Well I could not believe the signals I was getting nor the depth. I was digging wheat's at 7". I have a hole plug coin retriever I use in yards it is 7" long. I cut a plug coin was still in the hole I looked in the hole and there at the bottom was the penny the impression in the bottom of the plug.
Finds Indian Head 1904, Wheat's 1920, 1929, 1938,1950, 1952, 1957 D and 12 other newer coins.
Update just found several more wheats and a 1911 2.5 gold coin looks like maybe it was a ring at one time has 2 marks on the back need help on how to clean it.
No there is no D mint mark don't I wish!
The tool I use was custom made for me by Wohler 20 years ago, I dont have the contact information any more, it helps me get into nice yards as it makes nice clean holes.
I included a pic.
Todays Wheats Aug 13 1916,1918,1922,1923,1928,1934,1936,1945,1951 and one buff nickel cant see date. Will change pic tomorrow.
Todays Finds Aug 14 1942 Merc, Another Buff, 1944 wheat, Belt Buckel with some gilt, a piece of a button that says something holiday on it.
For those asking about the hole plug tool I will make another post in recovery tools and take many pictures and write the specs of the hole pluger so you can make your own.
To answer other questions it makes nice holes you push it in with your feet, sometimes I jump on both sides in hard dirt, yes I missed once and runined a Barber half but never since then.
The grass almost never dies just try and not mess with the upper part of plug with the roots. After I hunt a nice lawn at the end of the day I water their lawn and I keep a small bag og grass seed, that
I sprinkle over the holes.
Before I baught my fisher CZ-3D I was using the spectrum with the Blue-max, I tried many many programs on it. I found many many deepies with it also. it is one great machine that ill never part with. I picked it up at a yard sale for $50 bucks and filled a whole cigar box with all the wheats ive found with it. Never tried the 6 incher with it though, I like my fisher more because its so light. but I still use both of them at all my sites.
so keep searching, theres more there.
