Went and done a little digging in the hard Ga dirt today. All in all it was a nice day weather wise. Found this little beauty about 4 inches down, should clean up nicely. I will post pics of it when I get it cleaned so for now here it is before I clean it.

Nice!! Is it pewter?? I dug a nice cast pewter "I" from one of Longstreet's camps up here in Northern Virginia... one of my best buttons... let's see the pics when you get it cleaned up!

When the Confederates were in winter quarters in Dalton, Georgia in the winter of 1863-64, the Governor of North Carolina issued many of the troops new uniforms and they all had the one piece cast brass I button. It is just a wonderful find. I would rather dig a cast I than eat. Keep it up.

Thanks everyone, yeah Gadirtfishin that is where we were a couple of weeks ago. I kept saying in my mind that there had to be some stuff left on 88 acres, and looking what poped out. Now it's time for a big C.S.A. buckle to go along with it. Monkeyboy it is cast brass and heavy that is why so many were lost. DugGap I agree, this is my second Confed button from this property but my first cast I. I hope to dig many more, who knows, but it was fun and I will always remember it.

 That is one sweet Confederate cast I Infantry button bud!! It has a full shank and all, that would sure make your day!

Much luck to you on the next hunt, maybe a nice Confederate belt plate in there too!!

Well here it is after some cleaning with water and a toothbrush. The patina didn't turn out quiet like I thought and hoped it would, but all in all I am not going to complain. It's a keeper in my book. Thanks for looking, Jonathon.

Nothing wrong with that cast I. Sometimes when they come out of pine trees they have a brown patina rather than green. Either way it is a super find.
