Re: 1786 "VERMONTENSIUM" Copper in Ma. Ryder 7 var.
Woo HOOOOOOO!!!!
This is a banner nomination for sure!!
We all know there's no such thing as a "hunted out" location. Let's stop using that phrase to describe a park out of which you just dug a pile of coins! Obviously that particular place wasn't "hunted out", right?

I didn't know what it was when I first looked at the thread, but I know enough, once I saw the pics to have scrolled straight back to see if it was on the Banner.
Well done and I look forward to seeing it up there in the limelight.

Regardless, I wouldn't do any cleaning on this one other than water. And I would send it off to be professionally restored. If it is in fact a VF then you're looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $2500. There's quite a bit of dropoff going to the F grade but still would be worth it in my book.
...and there's also a drop off for pitting which is present on many dug coins. It's impossible to say what the condition and value is until it's cleaned. I would keep these high quotes in check for the moment.

Wow, that's a good looking coin. Great Find!!!
Det vi vet er så uendelig lite mot det som har hendt. Arkeologen er som den som går langs en strand og finner småtterier, skyllet i land fra et forsvunnet skib. Men selve skibet som gikk i dypet med menneskene får han aldri se.

Hogge,
What a find, that coin is a beauty, and congratulations big time on the banner.
Whereabouts in Pittsfield are you? I live off of Elm St, near PHS....Just curious what area you found that near, you don't have to tell me, just wondering if it was around Pittsfield or the surrounding towns. I found a similar Vermont copper near Foxhollow in Lenox. My brother says there's nowhere left to go around here, but goes to show there's still stuff in the ground everywhere.
Once again, GREAT find!

Awesome coppa recovery, Hogge! You always amaze me with your super Colonial finds!
I know the feeling of yanking out a beautiful coppa...mine goes back to the time when I dug my 1793 George Washington Ship Halfpenny in MINT condition. It definitely was a thrill, buddy!
Keep the Colonial passion at an ultimate high!
