got out for a few hours yesterday back to the field were i found the half sovereign lots of buttons any one any idea on the one with the 5 5 on it quite like that button thanks for looking ps just noticed this one in amongst them any ideas on it ?

I'm no expert on buttons but is no later than 1812 (I would say)

Nice finds...I think someone else found the exact same button with the '55' on it not too long ago. I remember seeing it within the last two or three weeks here on T-Net.

I wondered where you were. As its not pewter I would tend to agree, but your the expert & I thought you might have the month as well

You throw around the term expert on a very loose basis.

I just checked my books and no match but based on what I see I still think it's probably 1800s. Usually when a button is a little thicker like that it is later. (post 1700)


PS.. You know you're tired when you go to put your coffee back on the bookshelf instead of the book.

Your other button is upside down 1700s British Royal Artillery.

I have Military Buttons of the American Revolution by Don Troiani. Also, Parkyn Shoulder belt plates and buttons, Alberts for American, and Dating Buttons by Tice. Plus I have a few other things printed out by friends and mailed to me.
