Mystery Silver Coin UPDATE: No longer a mystery, It's a Half Real

This was dug at an 1800's cellarhole site where i recently found an 1883 Indian Head. It is a little smaller than a dime and is very thin. It has very few distinguishing features as you can see but after studying it for hours and going through my redbook several times I've decided to let the experts have a look at it  Thanks for looking! Ugly coat buttons eh?
Jerry

Re: Mystery Silver Coin

Judging by the size and the fact that it seems to be scored to be cut I'd say half real. Seems to be About the correct size according to the picture. Nice find.

Re: Mystery Silver Coin

Thanks for the pics Relicdude. I think that your 1761 coin at the bottom is real close to a match. I've taken another picture and I'm able to see a little more detail now that i have it oriented the right way. I can now see the "m" with the "o" over top of it and the "u" in QUE at the top. You have a pic of the reverse of that 1761?

Thanks for all the pics Relicdude, you've been a big help in id'ing this one. What's up with the score marks??? I have seen those on a lot of old coins posted here. I know they use to cut some of the larger silvers in to quarter sections but I wouldn't think they would have done that to such a tiny piece of silver? HH,Jerry

Re: Mystery Silver Coin UPDATE: No longer a mystery, It's a Half Real

Hey Jerry, nice find!
If this helps at all, the 1 Reale in my avatar is ALMOST the size of a Nickle, but not quite.
But it's definately WAY bigger than a Dime.
So I bet it's a Half Reale if it's slightly smaller than a dime.
Boy I sure wish I could find these more often!
Congrats!
