Oldest Coin Found is a 1853 Seated Liberty Half Dime
Re: New Year!!.........Old Silver!!
Looks like you had an excellent day.
Any chance that the round piece with the broken slot above the hole may have been a slave token of some type?
Nice Spanish silver. WTG

Re: New Year!!.........Old Silver!!
did u scratch the Reale? Whether you did, or the ground did, or my eyes are just playing tricks on me, great find! I hit a half reale several yrs ago... under the football bleachers at our local HS.. the bleachers date from 1913.... there was a house in the area prior to this.... but the neat thing was... it was only like an inch deep..... congrats man!

Awesome Reale,
I am still looking for my first spanish silver. They are hard to find. Pre 1850 silver is even tough to come by.

CANE FIELD BANDITS and IRON BRIGADE MEMBER
Re: New Year!!.........Old Silver!!
Nice work!
The chain piece I *believe* is horse-related. The name of it has escaped me, but I believe that chains such as the one you found were used up through the Civil War. If I can think of what the heck it's called, I'll reply again.
Best Wishes,
Buckleboy

Re: New Year!!.........Old Silver!!
Thanks for all the congrats!! This was my third piece of spanish silver. I have two half reales I found at a a very old church a few years ago(1786 and a no date), and they were fairly shallow. This was deep or at least deep for me(10-12") which makes this the second deepest coin I have ever pulled in regular dirt.............and yes I did scratch it up.....probably my best coin to date and I massacre it We got back out to the same spot today and I found two flat buttons ,a beat up small buckle and a nice arrowhead.....hope to find some more silver. The oldest silver to come from this spot e before I found the two reale was an 1829 half dime....so this place goes back!!! I cant wait to get back there!

That 2 Reale is a beauty! That sounds like a fabulous site!
A gentleman farmer named Floyd
With some of his kin was annoyed
The boys in their youth
Did not know the truth
And one of his tools was destroyed
