Guys don't be to hard on me,this is my first post. Flask was found last week in upstaste s.c. I do have both the front and back and they are the same. The shield near the bottom has US stamped inside leading me to believe it may be military related. This is the best I could do with the photo. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Too me, it looks like you have dug an 1844 Ames gunpowder flask, otherwise know as a "Peace Flask" because of the two shaking hands. I dug one last year in South Eastern Virginia. Many of these were first carried by US troops in the Mexican American War (1846-1848), as well as being used during the Civil War. Union forces, of course, used these during the Civil War, but Confederate veterans of the Mexican American War and the pre-Civil War US Army are know to have carried these into battle.
Awesome find. Congrats!! Keep digging and welcome to Treasure Net.

Re: powder flask
Welcome to T-net! You my friend have found a Peace Powder Flask...It's in great shape considering that it's been in the ground for 125 plus years. A nice piece of history you got.
