Finds of a Lifetime!
had a great weekend hunting with Steve. DaytonDigger and then Saturday and Sunday with my brother, it was a very busy weekend and by the end of Fridays hunt with Steve I really didnt even know what I had found except for 6 silvers and 13 wheat pennies. I did check the mint marks on the silver coins though just because I have only found P coins all year and noticed two of the mercurys were D's.
After hunting with Steve all day I went home and went to bed, I had a busy weekend ahead of me including hunting Saturday with my brother and cook out at moms and then going to my brothers in wilmington on sunday, every day I had to drive atleast an hour and a half to get where I was going and all were long days. Saturday I found the two Indians and I was flying high ecspecially with the 1872 Indian. after getting home around Midnight Saturday I posted pics of my finds with Steve and went to sleep.
Sunday I got the chance to hunt a while with my brother and nephew and I found the 1904 Indian, It couldnt have been a better weekend! after hunting I was showing my Nephew the website and seen where Daytondigger posted under our Fridays finds asking if I had checked the mint mark on the 1916 Dime, I looked at the picture and sure enough I had found a 1916 dime! I remembered I had found a Teens Dime and making note that it was my oldest mercury dime I had ever found but not remembering it being a 1916, had I really found a 1916 D dime? I thought no way! I remembered looking at the mint marks on the dimes and 2 out of the 3 were D mint marks, is it really possible I might have found a 1916 D dime!!??
I did not get home for several hours, I finally made it home and I ran to my coin collection, I pulled the 1916 out and looked it over closely, there was a mint mark there, is it a D is it a S? my eyes were so tired, I grabbed the loop and for a split second I was sure it was a S, wait a minuite, I think it is a D! Finally I had to take pictures and blow it up, finally, on the screen before me I had found a 1916 D Mercury dime!
I took it to my coin dealer yesterday who after looking at it several times believes it is authentic, we sent it off to ANACS yesterday and should have it back in 15-20 Days!!!

Re: Finds of a Lifetime!
thanks everyone! yea I am still on cloud nine, I have had some decent finds over the years and this year has been incredible but I have never found anything with real value until this weekend! the value really doesnt matter though except for bragging right because I will never sell it. I am just about as happy with the indian! I love indian head pennies, ecspecially when they come out of the ground looking that good, unfortunantly there is some pitting on the back, a coin dealer told me with the pitting it is probably worth about 150.
