3 More Indians and a counterstamped LC

Look at these beauties! Believe it or not, I got dates off all 3 IH's. 1883, 1899, and 1903. Golden1, The Vermonster, my brother, and I hit this new spot we have. There are alot of pine trees which makes the soil very acidic. Which in turn, is not very kind to copper coins. I have to actually clean these with "lukewarm" hydrogen peroxide, then dish soap and warm water. If you heat the peroxide up too much, it takes the detail and top surface of the coin away. (been there) NOT GOOD! Couldn't get a date off the LC but seems to be Matron Head, 1816-1836. Counterstamp is O.H.M.

Nice counterstamp Hogge. Rulau does not list this one, however he would be excited to know about it. He would definately list it in the new addtion (on cd) that is coming out with revisions and additions.

This is what one guy said....... He said these are "Mavericks" which he doesn't list. But looking at the list, (A-Z), he has quite a few KNOWN 2 and 3 lettered listed. Maybe these are the KNOWN, IDENTIFIED Varieties?

Another piece of info.......In the vacinity of this find was a Hotel, which is on October Mountain. (October Mountain Hotel??). Just a guess, But why would it be O.H.M. instead of O. M. H.?

Large Cents are always a welcome find. The soil up my way seems to treat the copper a little better. I have yet to find a counter stamped one.

    Great digs, VPR

Hogge You pulled out some neat things this time Bri also found a Indian head that one of us must of dug up ! It didn't give a good beep so we overlooked it. It was good that he found it! He was kinda getting discouraged until he found it .I want to take my pin that I found and have someone get the corrosion off of it or do you know how to do that? It already is showing some detail but I don't want to damage it .
