Lunch break hunt ~ 1943-s Merc dime ~ two 1945-s War Nickels ~ 12 wheats
Hello!
The weather has been pretty nice the last couple days ~ I couldn't just sit in my office anymore, I had to get out to detect, so I took a little extended lunch break today. Here's what I dug today:
1943-S Mercury Dime
two 1945-S War Nickels
12 Wheats dating from 1921 to 1955
3 clad quarters
3 clad dimes
2 modern nickels
21 Memorial cents
GrimLand Play Coin 5 cents
Olympic pin
I took pic's of the coins before and after I cleaned 'em up. This Merc dime is my silver coin find #89 for the year.
Anyone know anything about Olympic pins? I dug this one today that I assume is a little older ~ it was just as deep as the wheats, Merc and War nickels. It's about 19 mm tall and 16 mm wide. The only mark on it is an "L" with a small banner thing (see close-up pictures). Anyone know anything about this pin? How old is it?
Thanks for looking!
Neil

I believe the "L" stands for "Lunch Hunting" an underestimated good time of a sport that you just got the silver in! HA! Awesome digs for a lunch break!

Nice job on the silver oddcoins!

Nice Merc!
Thanks man! Yeah, for some reason sometimes I can dig just as much stuff in a hour lunch break as I do in a six hour hunt on a Saturday! WEIRD!

Great finds, Neil. Wish I could help with the olympic pin. Strange there isnt a date on it. As collectible as they are, I'd imagine there is a website somewhere out there that can help you date it.
I've never found a war nickel. How do they sound on the explorer?

They actually sound like a regular nickel! The tone a little deminished usually because of the depth, but they come in pretty good!
