Sunday Hunt produces a nice 1872 Indian Head Penny!
I got permission to hunt a new site Sunday and detected till after dark.
There was a lot of junk in the rocky soil around the barn so I moved to the front yard.
I unearthed several wheats dating from the 1930s and 40s, and one coin too crusty to tell.
It read lower then a penny on the XLT so I figured it was an Indian.
Sure enough, a good date in nice shape

For undug coins this is true. For dug coins this is untrue.
The value will increase with judicious cleaning."

I used a toothpick and a stereoscopic microscope to slowly chip away at the crust. I learned the hard way not to use peroxide on green indians link here
