Went back to a site that gave up a lot of buttons . I was hoping for a coin,no luck but more buttons.
The largest is bigger than a half dollar. Any guess on the age of the buckle in the middle . HH Mike
Wonderful finds. Man, I love seeing those iron buckles come out of the ground, and they're so much harder to come by intact like this one is. It looks as though its a steel oval knee buckle from about 1760, maybe a decade or two later. The anchor part of the chape has broken off. Again, great find!

Nice finds! I agree with johnnyi, it's nice to see an early ferrous buckle that hasn't deteriorated badly in the ground. Electrolysis, tannins and Ren wax ought to preserve that one for years to come.

I don't think this one is iron, just got iron residue, these are mostly copper-alloy.

depends on condition of the soil etc, as we find Roman Iron objects in OK condition
