Did some night detecting, found this Motorla Razor I believe it is.
Was about 2 inches under the chips, right near where the grass started, and about 5 ft in front of a swing set.
I surmise that a kid did a flying leap off a swing, and the cell phone flew out of a pocket.
Not thats its of any use even if it did work, but its in pretty good shape - Won't turn on, of course
the battery could just be drained.
These phones usually have their own special charger hookups, this one has the general shape of a USB connector, but its not, that would be too easy.
If I can get it to power up I'll try to track down the owner, if not, into my junk box it goes. It might have a memory card, that could be of some use.
Rang up as a $ by the way, also these 2 .925 marked silver rings, and the usual lump of pocket change.
Re: Kiddy lot yields a cell phone & 2 silver rings
Nice going on the rings
Try as I may, I never seem to find anything but clad at tot lots...but I know others in our club who bring home the bacon...err..gold and silver monthly from them, so I must be hitting the wrong ones (I dig everything from foil up).
Re: Kiddy lot yields a cell phone & 2 silver rings
Well, any lot can be the right one - Maybe your club is beating you to them.
The beauty of them is they replenish, and some do seem to replenish better than others.
I imagine alot of guys wait until Friday or sometime during the weekend to pound the lots, figuring they might as well give a full 5 days for the kids to lose stuff.
Maybe you should try a Thursday evening or something, to beat them to the punch.
I pretty much go in a random fashion, as my free time permits.
I'm trying to push as much as I can, as winter will soon close things down here in MI.
Re: Kiddy lot yields a cell phone & 2 silver rings
Xray, congrats on the rings.
You can take the phone to pretty much any local cell phone store. Most carriers sell or sold the RAZR and should have a charger. All they have to do is plug it in and turn it on. The carrier's name will appear on the display. Once you have that, the carrier can do an IMEI/ESN search(the IMEI or ESN is located on the back of the phone behind the battery) to find out who the owner is, unless it is a pre paid. Only the carrier that the phone is with can do the search though. They could also check to see if a home number is listed in the contacts list. You might end up making some kid's Thanksgiving very thankful.
Re: Kiddy lot yields a cell phone & 2 silver rings
you can always turn the phone into
the schools principal and they might
be able to return it to the owner.
Mine and my wifes are both just
like that one.
Re: Kiddy lot yields a cell phone & 2 silver rings
Turns out it does use a USB charger, which I have.
Took the battery out and it was pretty moist behind it.
Let it dry out over night and tried a charge, seems dead as a door nail, so unless the battery itself is fried, looks like this thing is beyond redemption.

Thanks for the tot lot tips. I mainly focus on looking for old coins now days, but with the price of gold those tot lots are looking better and better
I may try a couple this weekend for the heck of it, one thing is almost always for certain at a tot lot and that's the "gas rebate" is usually pretty good
Re: Kiddy lot yields a cell phone & 2 silver rings
Relics & old coins are unquestionably my major interest, but the odds of finding silver and gold jewelry are much higher at tot lots and beaches.
I sure don't do it for the pocket change, if thats all there was there I wouldn't do it.
But as with most other things, variety spices things up a bit, if nothing else ,,, And the bottom line, the more you hunt, the more you'll find.
