Probably a good story behind this coin
Cincinnati, Ohio was mostly founded by German immigrants. I have to imagine this coin came over in the pocket of one of the earlier arrivals. How it ended up in the woods for me to find I do not know. I almost pitched this coin into my junk pile. When I found it, the mud completely covered the details. Not recognizing the size or thinness(smaller and thinner than a dime), I figured it for some oddball copper disc, and shoved it in my pocket. This evening I realized it was still in my pocket. Seeing it in better light, I realized it was a coin. I was pretty when I cleaned it up and saw 1842 as the date. I guess it is a German 1 Pfenning. Don't know if these are rare. Happy to have found it.

Very cool. . . that probably has more ties to local history than an American coin

That is a wonderful find, with wonderful history behind it. I was very thrilled to find an old two-piece button with the backmark "Extra Fein" last year in an area where there were lots of German immigrants. That coin is a super cool find, and not one likely to be repeated anytime soon. I'd take it over an 1842 Large Cent anyday.

That is a cool find. I would say at 1842 it has to have some sort of significant value or history to it.

Hmmm Odd sized old coin....It ain't going in my junk pile for a second! That coin goes into a plastic pouch until I can get home and ID the sucker!!
